Ditch the Phone and Take a Soulful Break.

Happy Monday all! Another week has started! How many of you find your phone attached to your hand when you are taking a "break?" Whether you're taking a break in the middle of your work day or at the end of the day once your kids are in bed; I feel like we are all way too attached to our wonderful electronics. I am among the people guilty of this.

It's like if you arrive early somewhere and are waiting you feel naked without a phone in your hand. You start pretending that people are contacting you and you're looking at something important on your phone, when really, we all know you're checking out random, meaningless posts on Facebook and Instagram. Lots of the times, checking out your own Facebook and Instagram, reminiscing about the 'good ol' days' that were last week.

I think we're at a time in the electronic age, when we really have to make a conscious effort to detach! If you're feeling frazzled, over-tired, or like you never get a break, it's probably because in the moments you have time to yourself through out the day, you stay plugged in via your cell phone. I'm here to say turn it off. Gasp! Yes, turn your phone off and do one of these 10 things instead.

1. Write a letter. Pen to paper is really therapeutic. Have no one to write to? Write a letter to yourself!
2. Lay under a tree. Nothing quite like laying under a tree, especially on a warm, windy day. Just watch the tree be.
3. Take a nap. People have weird feelings about naps, but I'm one that thinks a power nap is good for your mind and body.
4. Eat your lunch in silence. Eat your lunch, by yourself, with just you and your thoughts. You'll really appreciate each bite and your mind will have time to think, which it will appreciate.
5. Take a bath. Ah, everyone deserves a nice, hot bath now and then. It's so relaxing for your body and your mind. 'Bath bombs' make a bath that much more magical.
6. Light a candle. Candles are very calming. Light one and just enjoy the peace it brings, or read by it, meditate by it, eat by it.
7. Read. Read a few chapters, or even a few pages of the book you've been meaning to finish. Reading is always good for the brain.
8. Color. Seriously, get some paper, even a coloring book and some crayons and color. It's fun, reminds you how simple the world used to be, and I think it's good for the soul. Plus, if you have kids, they are always impressed with how well you can color. Ha!
9. Skip. Have you skipped lately? Skipping brings out the jolly. Having a rough day? Skip to your lunch room. You won't be able to not smile.
10. Take a deep breath. Sigh. Scream. Sometimes it's good to just breathe deeply and for those rough days, go somewhere and scream into the sky. You'll feel fresh afterwards, take my word for it.

Let's try to detach here and there, people. Let's remember life's simple pleasures. We don't have to do everything, everyday! Take a break. And if you have to, you can always write a Facebook status about doing these things afterwards ;).
